The
Heritage Fair program actively involves Canada's young people, schools,
businesses and community organizations in a contemporary celebration of
Canada's shared traditions and history. The primary focus of the Sudbury
Regional Heritage Fair is to encourage students to use any chosen medium
to tell stories and share information about local heroes and events, and
to provide avenues for students to present the results of their efforts
to the
community at large.
Throughout the fair students and teachers will participate in workshops
and view stage performances offered by local organizations to learn more
about their history and contributions to our local heritage. Some of the
participants include singing groups, martial arts, dance groups, spoken-word
and story-tellers, musical groups and representatives from many of Sudbury's
rich ethnic communities.
Also on display during the fair are students' visual projects as either
static tabletop displays or performance presentations. Created by local
students from grade 4 to 10, these projects promote a local heritage theme
of the students' choosing and may be submitted in either French or English.
Popular project themes include the history of a particular local business
or institution, local service groups, the local Girl Guide or Boy Scout
movement, aspects of the mining and pulp and paper industry, and many
more.
